Our History

Christ Church was built during the early years of Prestatyn’s transformation from a quiet seaside village into a lively and growing town. As the railway arrived and tourism flourished, new families began to settle in the area — and with them came the need for a place of worship and community.

Dedicated in 1863, Christ Church was established to serve this expanding population, offering a spiritual home for residents and visitors alike. From the beginning, it stood as a symbol of faith, hope, and togetherness at the heart of the town.

Building the Church

The church’s distinctive architecture and beautiful stained-glass windows reflect the devotion and generosity of those who built and supported it.

According to the Stained Glass in Wales catalogue, the original building was completed in 1863, with the first major additions, including the south aisle, made in 1905.

These expansions were made possible by the growing congregation and a shared commitment to creating a space that would serve generations to come.

The earliest large-scale glazing dates from the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, with each window telling part of the church’s unfolding story through colour, light, and artistry.

A Living Landmark

For more than 160 years, Christ Church has stood as a landmark of faith, hope, and hospitality. It has witnessed countless moments of joy, reflection, and remembrance, from baptisms and weddings to community gatherings and quiet prayer.

While the world around it has changed, the church’s mission has remained constant: to welcome all, to serve the community, and to honour the love and faith of those who came before.
Today, Christ Church continues to be a vibrant part of Prestatyn’s life, rooted in history, yet always reaching forward in faith.
